‘Covert car’ anti-theft scheme effective in Bristol

Since the covert cars were deployed in the counties of Bristol, almost two hundred thieves were already apprehended. A police spokesperson for the counties of Avon and Somerset said that several of these covert cars were dispersed in numerous areas in Bristol.
“In two years nearly 200 people have been arrested for offences connected to vehicle crime and handling stolen goods and a lot of stolen property has been recovered,” the spokesman of Bristol Police said.
Once a person tries to break in, an almost naked-to-the-eye camera tapes everything. With evidence caught on tape, the authorities get to identify thieves. Moreover, police officers are wise enough to leave baits inside the vehicle. A backpack, for example, is equipped with a tracking device.
“Some of the photographs we have got from the cars have been excellent images. There is no doubt who the thief is and what they are doing,” said Superintendent Ian Wylie. “When faced with such evidence, there is no other way to go than guilty”
